How to Measure Your Horse for a Bridle

Our goal is to ensure your horse enjoys maximum comfort in their bridle. A correctly fitted bridle not only prevents discomfort but can also improve your horse’s way of going, leading to softer contact, clearer communication, and a more relaxed, willing partner. Riders often tell us how much difference a well‑fitted bridle makes to consistency and performance, in all disciplines and all levels.

EvoEQUINE anatomical headpieces and memory‑foam padding are designed to reduce pressure points and support comfort. For best practise in relation to fit, we recommend that you take a few simple measurements of your horse’s head before ordering. This allows us to tailor the bridle to your horse’s unique shape.

Measuring Guide

Please use a soft measuring tape and record all measurements in millimetres (mm). Always measure with the bit you most frequently use.

  1. Noseband Width and Circumference• A: Measure the distance between the front arms of the noseband. The straps should sit just outside the cheekbones.
    • B: Measure the full circumference of the nose where the noseband will sit (approximately two fingers below the cheekbone).
  2.  Cheekpiece Length. With your chosen bit in place, measure from the top of the bit ring or arm up to the corner of the horse’s eye.
  3. Browband Length Measure from the back of one ear, across the forehead, to the back of the other ear. Include the leather loops of the headpiece in this measurement.
  4. Throatlash Circumference Measure the distance all the way around the throat, passing in front of the bit.
  5.  Browband to Browband Poll Loop Measure from one side of the browband loop, up and over the poll, to the loop on the opposite side.
  6. Horse Details Note your horse’s size and breed, as this helps us refine the fit further.

Ordering Your Bridle

Once you have recorded the measurements, select your preferred bridle style in a standard size (e.g. Full) from our online shop. At checkout, use the comments box to include your horse’s measurements and any specific requests regarding headpiece design. The EvoEQUINE team will then custom‑adjust the bridle to suit your horse.

Fit Check Service

When your bridle arrives, we encourage you to check the fit carefully. If you would like professional confirmation, you can send photos of your horse wearing the bridle via WhatsApp to 087 9204270. A bridle fitter from EvoEQUINE will review the images and provide feedback to ensure everything is perfect.

Final Note

Every horse is different, and small adjustments can make a big difference. By taking the time to measure accurately in millimetres, you help us deliver a bridle that supports comfort, performance, and partnership — exactly what we stand for.
